The powerful, new 1.8- liter engine was designed to achieve the fuel economy of a 1.5-liter engine so it actually gives you more power while increasing gas mileage. The cleaner-burning Civic has also attained an Ultra-Low-Emission Vehicle (ULEV-2) rating in 50 states. And the new, available compact 5-speed automatic transmission is a fuel-saving Civic feature.
